Metadata and Annotations#

Metadata and annotations provide lightweight, extensible mechanisms for attaching contextual information to enterprise resources. They are widely supported across platforms and are often ignored by core system logic unless explicitly referenced.

Enterprise Structural Awareness uses metadata and annotations to declare regime context, operating envelopes, and boundary semantics in a non‑intrusive manner.

Common metadata surfaces include:

  • Resource tags and labels
  • Annotations on services or workloads
  • Descriptive fields in management systems
  • Documentation‑linked metadata

Because metadata is typically optional and non‑enforcing, it serves as an ideal entry point for introducing structural awareness without impacting existing workflows or automation.
