Configuration Surfaces#

Configuration surfaces are one of the most stable and widely understood entry points in enterprise IT systems. They include files, templates, and declarative objects that define system behavior, assumptions, and operating context.

Enterprise Structural Awareness leverages configuration surfaces as passive carriers of structural context. Rather than introducing new configuration mechanisms, this approach identifies existing configuration locations where regime and validity information can be declared without affecting runtime behavior.

Examples of configuration surfaces include:

  • Service configuration files
  • Infrastructure‑as‑code templates
  • Platform configuration manifests
  • Environment‑specific settings

By embedding structural awareness into configuration surfaces, organizations can make operating assumptions explicit, document regime boundaries, and support interpretation of drift without altering system execution or control logic.
